What file format should I use when exporting data?

Excel (.xlsx) is the recommended format — it opens neatly in Microsoft Excel with no extra steps.
Use CSV (.csv) if you need to share the data with someone using different software, or if you're importing it into another system. CSV files can be opened by virtually any spreadsheet program including Excel, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc.
